When to go to Italy

ree

Ciao amici,

I escaped the frigid tempertures of New York and went to Italy for a week! The trip was leisurely. I caught up with old friends, rode a bike around, went to the supermarket and got all of my favorite fresh cheeses and just enjoyed being in Italy.

My favorite time for a solo trip Italy is mid-January. This is the lowest tourist season of the year and when you can see Italians enjoying their cities without the flood of foreigners. If you can get there before all of the American study abroad students arrive – even better! Everywhere you go, you will be treated like a local.

Be warned that visiting in January does come with a few drawbacks, if you don’t mind: artisanal gelato shops will be closed, summer produce such as tomatoes, plums and basil will not be available and it will surely downpour at least once.

However, anyone looking for an authentic stay in Italy can sacrifice these things. The gelato can wait, truly feeling a part of the culture and being closer to the people is way more valuable.

You have a whole year before this travel opportunity occurs again. Let’s keep learning Italian and have you ready for that authentic Italian getaway. Schedule a Discovery Call to get started or pick up where you left off!

Abbracci,

Lisa
